I just attended a great presentation with Upstate Behavioral Alliance on motivational interviewing… Research indicates that motivational interviewing can be effective in working with substance use, eating disorders, as well as other mental health issues. Based on Carl Rogers’ therapeutic approach, motivational interviewing is a client-centered, compassionate, goal-oriented, and collaborative approach to enhance motivation and resolve ambivalence to change (Miller and Rollnick, 2012).
